Whitewater paddling is great on North River, and if you want to explore some interesting stuff, explore Big Bend. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Horseshoe Pond. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Horseshoe Pond. | | Quincy is a pleasant choice. Lakes are magnificent; Wiseman Recreation Lake is a lake that's right next door to Horseshoe Pond, and dry warm beds await you at Americas Best Value Inn/Quincy. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Horseshoe Pond you will meet lots of folks from nearby Hannibal, and Gard Lake Dam is not far at all from Horseshoe Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Pond, and Valley View Mobile Home Park is a nice local campground. But wait, there's more to do next to Horseshoe Pond. Swamps like Eastern Slough are fun to stop by, and if you came for an overnight stay Bayview Campers Park
is a perfect place to camp. An average amount of rain falls at Horseshoe Pond; the month with most of the rain is July; February meanwhile is the driest month. Not far from Horseshoe Pond, you'll discover Number 12 Reservoir which is a stunning lake, and don't forget to take a delightful little visit to Lazy Branch.

Cedar Creek
 | 1 PHOTO In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago.... |
