Go to Highway Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. This lake is so wonderful. You'll stumble on a stunning lake called Fabick Lake near Highway Lake; the Kaintuck Trail offers hiking at its best. Good hiking is available along the Blossom Rock Trail, and Drury Inn Rolla is a brilliant site to get some rest. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Highway Lake with overnight lows in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's while Highway Lake overnight

You just can't envision the amount of outdoors enjoyable things the Ozarks has to offer. Highway Lake is a great site to visit for more than one day, Pine Crest Campground is a great site to camp nearby, and Montauk State Park is a good local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Highway Lake is located in the Ozarks.

May is the one with the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. If you need a location to stay Super 8 Motel - Rolla is a good choice, and why not take a look at Highway Lake Dam while you're here. Whohoo, so
many cool things in one place! The Ozarks is excellent! Why not stop at close by Hyer Branch while you're here at Highway Lake; there's wonderful hiking along the Cedar Bluff Trail.

...ll not know that you are on a bridge. From the bottom it looks like a large, deep cave through which light doesn't travel because of a bend in the tunnel. Follow the trail around the hill and you will find the other opening. Next time I will bring a flashlight so that I can explore a little.
The trails are popular with horseback riders and are as wide as sidewalks most of the time. In most places and the footing is good. A small percentage of the trail is made up of loose rock that can be bad for a weak ankle.
My only complaint is that the map I have is not accurate and the markers on the trees don't lend much confidence. Today I wound up walking an extra two hours because of a wrong turn. Looking at the Internet maps, I still can't find the path I was walking or the fenced meadows. In one spot the trail went through a chained gate. I didn't know if I would be trespassing so I turned right, followed a path around the field and found myself on some dirt road that is not marked. Maybe the next time the park service is out clearing fallen trees or doing their con... |
