Get yourself into a kayak and hit Bear Creek, and you don’t have to go far from Higbee Lake to see the water at Willer Lake Dam. From a rain point of view Higbee Lake is a rather normal location; July is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is February. Yep, outdoors cool | |

stuff to do are in fact bountiful here at Higbee Lake. Camping at Camp Hickory Haven is always a great experience, and Buck-Doe Run Watershed Lake Number 25 is a splendid lake close by. If you came to camp Hickory Haven Campground
is a good place to do that; if you come at the right time of year, Cedar Creek offers some delightful whitewater.

Cedar Creek
 | 18 miles away 1 PHOTO In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago.... |
