The beauty of Ed Whalen Lake is reason enough to stop by. Have a pleasant hiking adventure along the Kaintuck Trail; a round of golf at nearby Oak Meadow Country Club is a great way to kill some time. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Ozarks. Take a hike on the Blossom Rock Trail, and lakes are such peaceful sites, why not check out Frisco Lake. So many cool things to do in the Ozarks, not enough time. A good close by hotel is Super 8 Motel - Rolla, and Scotts Pond is a wonderful lake close by. All the outdoors enjoyable stuff near Ed Whalen Lake will keep you coming back many times. wonderful Ozarks. This lake is so wonderful. A common amount of precipitation falls here at Ed Whalen Lake; May is the wettest month with most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. The scenery at Whalen Dam in close proximity to Ed Whalen Lake is picturesque; if you need a place to stay Drury Inn Rolla is a perfect choice.

Kaintuck Trail
 | 15 miles away ...l bridge located on this trail is one of the largest I have ever seen. From the top, you will not know that you are on a bridge. From the bottom it looks like a large, deep cave through which light doesn't travel because of a bend in the tunnel. Follow the trail around the hill and you will find the other opening. Next time I will bring a flashlight so that I can explore a little.
The trails are popular with horseback riders and are as wide as sidewalks most of the time. In most places and the footing is good. A small percentage of the trail is made up of loose rock that can be bad for a weak ankle.
My only complaint is that the map I have is not accurate and the markers on the trees don't lend much confidence. Today I wound up walking an extra two hours because of a wrong turn. Looking at the Internet maps, I still can't find the path I was walking or the fenced meadows. In one spot the trail went through a chained gate. I didn't know if I would be trespassing so I turned right, followed a path around the field and found myself on some dirt road that is not m... |
