If you are in Phelps county it's always a good idea to stop by Dennis Lake. Dennis Lake is one of the lakes here in the Ozarks. High temperatures at Dennis Lake all through the summer are in the 90's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows at Dennis Lake through the winter frequently descend into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. | | Lake is a great place to visit for more than one day, Arlington River Resort is a great place to camp nearby. From a precipitation point of view Dennis Lake is a relatively typical place; most of the rain falls throughout May while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Emerald Lake which is a pretty lake. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Ozarks. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always visit close by Knoblauch Lake, and in the vicinity of Dennis Lake you locate a golf course
called Oak Hills Country Club. All the outdoors cool things in the Ozarks will keep you coming back many times. If you need a place to stay St. Robert-Days Inn Waynesville/Ft. Leonard Wood is a magnificent choice; nearby Dodds
Hollow is a good place to go. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at Country View Acres Campground, and the friendly people of Rolla like to hang out nearby. Don't leave Dennis Lake without first going for a hike along the Blossom
Rock Trail, and naturally Mill Creek flows through this area. There's always Dennis Lake Dam to check out near Dennis Lake, and going for a hike on the Kaintuck Trail is always a pleasant adventure.

Kaintuck Trail
 | ...natural bridge located on this trail is one of the largest I have ever seen. From the top, you will not know that you are on a bridge. From the bottom it looks like a large, deep cave through which light doesn't travel because of a bend in the tunnel. Follow the trail around the hill and you will find the other opening. Next time I will bring a flashlight so that I can explore a little.
The trails are popular with horseback riders and are as wide as sidewalks most of the time. In most places and the footing is good. A small percentage of the trail is made up of loose rock that can be bad for a weak ankle.
My only complaint is that the map I have is not accurate and the markers on the trees don't lend much confidence. Today I wound up walking an extra two hours because of a wrong turn. Looking at the Internet maps, I still can't find the path I was walking or the fenced meadows. In one spot the trail went through a chained gate. I didn't know if I would be trespassing so I turned right, followed a path around the field and found myself on some dirt road that is... |
