While you're here at Ashland Lake you will meet lots of folks from close by Jefferson City. There's so much to do here at Ashland Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Binder Park is a great place for that. Summertime at Ashland Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Ashland Lake. This lake

| | is so wonderful. Lakes are such peaceful sites, why not visit Peterson Lake near Ashland Lake, and you can go for a hike on the Cedar Creek Hiking Trail. Ashland Lake gets a common amount of yearly rain; throughout the month of May you get the most rain around here, and January is when it's the driest. Village MHP is a wonderful local campground. Big Branch is one of the streams nearby that might be worth checking out, and Laboratory Dam is a site that is in close proximity to Ashland Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Playing
golf is lots of fun at Eagle Knoll Golf Club, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Hinkson Creek. All the outdoors enjoyable things next to Ashland Lake will keep you coming back persistently. Candlewood Suites JEFFERSON CITY is a good site to get some rest; you'll stumble on a stunning lake called Curry Lake.

 | 12 miles away Let's get some data on Cedar Creek. I just canoed it on 10/10/09, and it was a hell of a fun ride....There is a gage at Providence Rd, you can check water levels at this link: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=06910230&agency_cd=USGS My unladen solo canoe can scoot by at 30cfs, any less than that and I'm dragging. ...As of 6/18/2008, there is nowhere near enough water in the stream at the put-in (or much of the rest of the stream) for any kind of paddle-craft....This is a fun, after work run when the water is moving. There are no defined rapids, although there are several modest playspots: 1)S-Turn, near the back of the Walmart site, and 2) The Ultimate Surfing Wave which is downstream from the Old 63 bridge. Hazards include two low water crossings in the Stephens Golf Course. Portage is highly recommended at high water as the crossings act as low head dams. Water quality in the Spring can be an issue and several boaters in years past have contracted leptosporosis (aka lepto) from involuntarily ingesting the water. Mostly the Hink' is a fun float on moving water with enough wave action and eddys to keep things interesting. Suitable for canoes and kayaks. ... |
