While you're here at West Pope Lake you can take a hike along the Height of Land Portage, and if you're here you must stop at Frances Bay. Cascade River is a splendid whitewater spot near West Pope Lake, and do take a look at Whisker Lake, it's a delightful lake. On a magnificent day at West Pope Lake you can take a hike along the South Lake Portage. | | site for that. A normal amount of rainfall falls here at West Pope Lake; throughout the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is February.

enough of the wonderful skiing at Lutsen; you can stay the night at Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to West Pope Lake, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Highs through
the winter are usually in the 10's; after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at West Pope Lake plunge into the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. If you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always
go whitewater paddling on Cascade River, and there is a glorious hiking trail nearby called the Stairway Portage.

I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
