A perfect nearby hotel is Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains; Belly Lake is a magnificent lake nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Height of Land Portage is always a great adventure, and camping at Devil Lake Campground is always a pleasant experience. | | through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 10's, and overnight lows at Vireo Lake through the wintertime mostly dip into the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. The skiing at Lutsen is nice. Vireo Lake gets a common amount of yearly rainfall; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. Any time is a delightful time at Vireo Lake | |

if you fancy the outdoors. On a splendid day at Vireo Lake you can take a hike along the North Shore State Trail, and if you came to camp Cascade River Campground is a pleasant place to do that.
Whitewater paddling is not for
everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Cascade River, and lakes are such serene places, why not visit Whale Lake. There is a great hiking trail right next door to Vireo Lake called the South Lake Portage, and Super 8 Grand Marais is a glorious place to get some rest.

 | Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout.  | I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
