A tour to nearby Arrowhead Point is very relaxing, and going for a hike along the Canfield Portage will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. At Vermilion Lake during the warm months highs are in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 10's; nighttime lows in the-20's for Vermilion Lake. This lake is so wonderful. You could also take a look at Wolf Lake if you're here at

Life's too short to enjoy all the entertaining things near Vermilion Lake. The slopes of Giants Ridge are so inviting noone can resist, and whitewater paddling is fine on Vermilion River. is when it's the driest. Stay the night at Fortune Bay Resort - Casino - RV Park; after a long day outdoors Elbow Lake Lodge is a delightful spot to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is splendid here
at Vermilion Lake, you can go for a hike along the Taconite Trail; Lodge At Giants Ridge is a brilliant place to get some rest. There's so much to do here at Vermilion Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Hoodoo Point Campground is a good spot for that, and the Echo Trail is a perfect hiking trail close by.

Echo Lake
 | 14 miles away ...service but still standing to date. Now there are two resorts on the lake and a public campground. Echo lake is fabulous for jumbo bluegill and the colors of these fish are remarkable. Back in the late seventies when my father stayed at spring bay resort, my father caught the 13th bluegill ever reprted to be taken out of the lake. Al Johnson, owner of the resort at that time kept a notebook of any bluegills/sunfish ever caught due to the fact that the species was not native. The first time I went to this lake was back in 2000. I casted my nightcrawler harness out and slowly reeled my bait and felt a nice tug, thinking I had a bass on I came to the surprise to have the biggest bluegill hooked I've ever caught in my life. After measuring the brilliant, blue and purple colored gill I recorded that it was 11 inches long. The fight the gill gave was that of a good two pound black bass. The fish were spawning and I caught 8 more in that same bay that were all gigantic in size. The next trip to the lake was in 2007, and I still thought that maybe the gills I caught were maybe a ''fluke'' an... |
