If you like lakes and you're in this part of Minnesota you can check out Vaseux Lake. East Bearskin Campground is a brilliant local campground, and glide down the rapids of Brule River in a kayak. Moose Mountain can be distinguished from Vaseux Lake, and if you came for an overnight stay Kimball Lake Campground is a great site to camp. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Lesser Cherry Portage, and there are other sites here than

Hiking is a popular thing to do around Vaseux Lake; Great Cherry Portage is a perfect local trail, and Lily Lakes is a splendid lake close by. Vaseux Lake is a good location of normal precipitation; August is the wettest month with most rain, and February is when it's the driest.

Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Vaseux Lake are in the-10's.

Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
