If you came for an overnight stay East Bearskin Campground is a brilliant place to camp, and there are other spots here than Vaseux Lake, for example Fan Lily Lakes. The Vaseux Portage offers hiking at its best, and Best Western Superior Inn & Suites is a splendid place to get some rest. Vaseux Lake gets a typical amount of annual rain; throughout August this area sees the most rain while February is frequently the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Vaseux Lake is right by the Lesser Cherry Portage, and if you come at the right time of year, Brule River offers some good whitewater. Moose Mountain can be spotted from Vaseux Lake; camping is available at Kimball Lake Campground.

Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
