Beautiful Topper Lake has much to offer visitors. Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a wonderful campground nearby; if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Stairway Portage. Going for a hike along the Height of Land Portage will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area; whitewater paddling is wonderful on Cascade River. Not far from Topper Lake, you'll locate East Pope Lake which is a beautiful lake.

| | Bay since you're here at Topper Lake, and in case you don’t mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cascade River. Summertime highs at Topper Lake generally tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. Through the wintertime highs are mostly in the 10's, and night lows at Topper Lake during the winter typically sink into the-10's. Whohoo, so much entertaining stuff in one place! After a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a magnificent spot to spend a night or two, and since you're here you can take a hike along the South Lake Portage.
A common amount of rain falls here at Topper Lake; August
is the wettest month with most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. There are other locations here than Topper Lake, for example Surber Lake; you can stay the night at Cascade River Campground.

I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
