Surber Lake is a nearby lake that you could visit, and fine hiking is available along the Height of Land Portage. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Topper Lake. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 50's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 10's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Topper Lake. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors entertaining stuff the area near Topper Lake has to offer. lake is so wonderful. If you came for an overnight stay Cascade River Campground is a great site to camp, and do check out East Pope Lake, it's a pretty lake.
Topper Lake gets a normal amount of annual rain; the wettest month
of the year is frequently August, that's the one that rains the most, and February meanwhile is the driest month. There's splendid hiking along the South Lake Portage; if you come at the right time of year, Cascade River offers some brilliant whitewater.

I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
