Go to Tamarack Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. Near Tamarack Lake you stumble on the Simpson Creek Trail System which is a great hiking trail, and you'll hit upon a charming lake called Goche Lake. Stay the night at Plug Hat Point Campground Recreating and Picnic Area; there is a fine hiking trail close by called the South Highbanks Trail System. Man, is there loads of entertaining stuff to do near Tamarack Lake. Why not stop by Inspiration Point also

| | if you're here; Tamarack Campground is a great campground nearby. High temperatures at Tamarack Lake through the warmest time of the year are in the 80's, and the nighttime is quite colder of course, ordinarily in the 50's. Highs through the winter are generally in the 10's; winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Tamarack Lake. This lake is so wonderful. the Cutfoot Sioux National Recreation Trail is always a great adventure. A common amount of rain falls here at Tamarack Lake; the month with most of the rain is June; February is when it's the driest. A tremendous forest near
Tamarack Lake is Bowstring State Forest, and after a long day outdoors Trappers Landing Lodge is a great location to spend a night or two.

Mabel Lake Campground
 | 17 miles away ...of our favorite Minnesota campgrounds and we stay here several times each summer. We love that it is right on a lake and that many of the sites have their own little beach. The campground is quiet and the sites˙ are screened from one another for privacy. I hate to even post a review out of the fear that our favorite camping secret will become everyone's camping favorite. It is close enough to Longville˙ and Remer that you can run in for ice and supplies as needed. One small hint that I will pass on is that you might want to stop in Longville or Hackensack to buy your˙ firewood as the campground does not have any for sale.Mabel Lake campground is not on a campsite reservation system but we have never had a problem finding a site here. We discovered this campground as a result of finding one of the more popular Leech Lake campgrounds full. Once we found Mabel Lake, we never bothered with the other campgrounds in the area again. Mabel Lake is rustic so those seeking hook-ups, flush toilets, and running water best move on to the more crowded campgrounds on Leech Lake and leave us to our ... |
