Go to Swamp Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. From a rain point of view Swamp Lake is a pretty common place; all through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. And if that's not enough, there's heaps more to do right next door to Swamp Lake. You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Lutsen if you're here, and there is a delightful hiking trail nearby called the

Throughout the summertime months at Swamp Lake temperatures are typically in the 70's, and the overnight is fairly cooler of course, mostly in the 50's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 10's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Swamp Lake temperatures plunge to the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is delightful here at Swamp Lake, you can go for a hike along the North Shore State Trail. Lakes? | |

Sure, Babble Lake is in the neighborhood. Swamp Lake is a splendid place to visit for more than one day, Cascade River Campground is a splendid place to camp nearby. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Swamp Lake has
to offer, you can camp at Devil Lake Campground.
On a splendid day at Swamp Lake you can take a hike along the Height of Land Portage, and Caribou Highlands Lodge is a glorious place to get some rest. Whitewater paddling is not
for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Cascade River, and dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais. There's a forest here at Swamp Lake called Pat Bayle State Forest, and there are other places here than Swamp Lake, for example Zoo Lake.

| Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
