Lutsen is a very popular ski area close by; the Height of Land Portage offers hiking at its best. All through the warm months at Swamp Lake temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's while night lows are ordinarily in the 50's. The amount of rain that falls at Swamp Lake is close to the national average; through August this area sees the most rain
while February is generally the driest month. Pat Bayle State Forest is a fine local forest, and of course, this is a good neighborhood for folks who like lakes, Zoo Lake is a lake in the vicinity.

| Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
