Beautiful Susana Lake has much to offer visitors. Susana Lake is right by the South Lake Portage. This lake is so wonderful. Not far from Susana Lake you come across Frances Bay, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Height of Land Portage. Throughout the summer months highs here at Susana Lake get into the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 10's, and night lows at Susana Lake through

A normal amount of rainfall falls here at Susana Lake; the wettest month of the year is typically August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February. Little Gunflint Lake is a splendid lake next to Susana Lake; whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Cascade River. do here at Susana Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Gunflint Pines is a nice spot for that; Lutsen has glorious slopes and a friendly staff. Take a hike on the Stairway Portage, and there are some fine whitewater spots
on Cascade River. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Susana Lake has to offer, you can camp at Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge; there are other locations here than Susana Lake, for example Little North Lake.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | 14 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
