Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend St. Croix River, and if you need a site to stay Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites STILLWATER is a splendid choice. Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Stillwater is a great place to get some rest. There's so much to do here at Staples Lake that you need       to camp here for a while, Whispering Bay Resort is a brilliant location for that. Throughout the long summer days highs here at Staples Lake get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's; winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Staples Lake. Mississippi National River & Recreation Area is one of the destinations next to Staples Lake that are magnificent to go to, and Wild Mountain has fine slopes                  and a friendly staff. The annual rain here at Staples Lake is about average; all through June this area sees the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. There are some great whitewater spots on Apple River, and if you've had enough of Staples Lake, Turtle Lake is nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Be careful coming to Staples Lake, you might not ever wanna go home again. Trollhaugen is a very popular ski area in the vicinity.
