All through the warm months at Spen Lake highs are usually in the 70's; the night is quite colder of course, regularly in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 10's with temperatures at Spen Lake dipping down into the-10's throughout winter nights. There is a wonderful hiking trail near Spen Lake called the Stairway Portage, and a delightful location       to camp here at Spen Lake is East Bearskin Campground. After a long day outdoors Best Western Superior Inn And Suites is a great site to spend a night or two; going for a hike on the Long Portage is always a magnificent adventure. Spen Lake is a good place of common rain; the month with most of the rain is August, and February is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Lutsen is right next door to Spen                  Lake; Spen Lake is not the only spot nearby, Bow Lake is a nearby lake. Get your pulse rate up on the splendid whitewater of Cascade River, and Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a tremendous spot to get some rest. Go for a hike on the South Lake Portage, and there's whitewater on Devil Track River for all you adrenaline rush seekers. Spen Lake really is in the middle of a wonderful outdoors paradise.
