South Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, East Bearskin Campground is a good local campground, and while you're here, you could also visit pretty Birch Lake. So much amusing stuff to do here at South Lake, too wonderful to be true. If you need a site to stay Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains is a good choice; Super 8 Grand Marais is a good place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. | | to camp here for a while, Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a fine place for that, and you can go for a hike on the Stairway Portage. The amount of precipitation that falls at South Lake is close to the national average; most of the rain falls throughout August; February on the other hand is the driest.

I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
