The beauty of Sock Lake is reason enough to stop by. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Cascade River, and you're probably keen on lakes, South Lake is one of those close by. Go for a hike on the South Lake Portage, and a tremendous spot to camp here at Sock Lake is Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge. High temperatures at Sock Lake through the warm days of summer are in the 70's. | | temperatures dip down into the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 10's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Sock Lake.
There are some great whitewater spots on Cascade River; splendid hiking is available along the Stairway Portage.  | Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
