If you are traveling by, why not stop by Skipper Lake. Be careful coming to Skipper Lake, you might not ever want to return back home again. Get wet paddling on Cascade River, and while you're here you can take a hike along the South Lake Portage. From a rain point of view Skipper Lake is a pretty common location; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. Stay the night at Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge.

| | Lakes are delightful; Lum Lake is a lake that's in the neighborhood of Skipper Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a glorious site to get some rest; going for a hike along the Height of Land Portage will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. Not far from Skipper Lake, you'll find Misplaced Lake which is a striking lake, and whitewater paddling is great on Cascade River. There's so much to do here at Skipper Lake | |

that you need to camp here for a while, Cascade River Campground is a pleasant site for that; if the weather is tremendous, you can go for a hike along the Stairway Portage. The warmest time of the year at Skipper Lake arrives with
high temperatures in the 70's. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 10's, and overnight lows at Skipper Lake through the wintertime typically descend into the-10's.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | 11 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
