Hiking along the South Lake Portage is tremendous fun, and dry warm beds await you at Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains. Shrike Lake is a good site of typical rainfall; the month with most of the rain is August, and February is the month with the least moisture. This spot is peerless, just look at all the amusing things to do close to Shrike Lake. There's so much to do here at Shrike Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Cascade River Campground

| | is a good site for that, and Shrike Lake is right by the Height of Land Portage. Lakes? Sure, Zoo Lake is close at hand, and swing by Hand Creek it's a good place to take a look at. Shrike Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Devil Lake Campground is a great local campground, and there's whitewater on Cascade River for all you adrenaline junkies. the North Shore State Trail offers hiking at its best. Summer at Shrike Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Highs during the winter are commonly in the 10's while Shrike
Lake nighttime low temperatures all through the wintertime are in the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay The Mountain Inn is a wonderful choice. Everybody nearby loves skiing at Lutsen; the peak of Eagle Mountain can be made out from Shrike Lake.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
