If you came to camp Rocky Shores Campground is a glorious site to do that, and if you need a place to stay Budget Host Motel Ely is a great choice. For the period of the long summer days at Sand Lake highs are commonly in the 70's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 10's with temperatures at Sand Lake dipping down into the-10's during winter nights. The Kelly       Trail offers hiking at its best. This lake is so wonderful. Sand Lake is right by the Seven Beaver Snowmobile Trail; after a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Ely is a great place to spend a night or two. Sand Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, McDougal Lakes Campground is a good local campground; whitewater paddling is delightful on Stony River.
