From a rain point of view Sand Lake is a reasonably common place; the month with most of the rain is July while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Sand Lake during the summer months are in the 70's, and the nighttime is somewhat colder of course, regularly in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 10's, and winter nights come with lows in the-20's to Sand Lake. Not       enough hours in a day to enjoy the Mesabi Range. In the event that you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Big Fork, and lakes are such serene sites, why not go to Lost Moose Lake. And that's not all you can do here at Sand Lake. Little Sand Lake is a splendid lake near Sand Lake, and you can stay the night at Prairie Lake Campground. The Mesabi Range scenery is always beautiful. All the outdoors fun stuff in the Mesabi                  Range will keep you coming back over and over. There's so much to do here at Sand Lake that you need to camp here for a while, North Star Campground is a great location for that, and the Suomi Hills Trail System offers hiking at its best. Little Wolf Lake Wildlife Impondment Dam is a wonderful spot right next door to Sand Lake, and a perfect nearby hotel is Country Inn By Carlson Grand Rapids. This lake is so wonderful.
