Beautiful Ruby Lake has much to offer visitors. This lake is so wonderful. Summertime highs at Ruby Lake typically tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 10's; night lows in the-10's for Ruby Lake. This lake is so wonderful. The Stairway Portage offers hiking at its best; Ruby Lake is a splendid site to visit for more than one day, Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a splendid site to

If you need a place to stay Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a splendid choice; a lake nearby is Rudy Lake. There's great hiking along the Long Portage; a pleasant nearby hotel is Best Western Superior Inn And Suites. And that's not all you can do here at Ruby Lake. In the event that you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Devil Track River, and East Bearskin Campground is a good local campground.

snow is great at Lutsen, and Flour Lake is a nearby lake that you could take a look at. Ruby Lake gets a normal amount of annual precipitation; most of the rain falls through August, and the driest month is February. Why not take a refreshing hike along the South Lake Portage, and Devil Track River is a brilliant whitewater spot close by.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
Trout Lake

Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |

Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout.
