Great water clarity (10 feet or so) and minimal boat traffic, so it's really peaceful and serene out there. You'll find excellent northern fishing - very abundant. Walleyes are hard to come by, but every once in a while you'll get one. The public access is tough to use - not a lot of space to turn around or to park. The shoreline is heavily wooded and lightly to moderately developed. It doesn't really feel like a west-central MN lake...feels more ''up north''. Only a handful of people live out there full-time. Most are cabins that get weekend use. No resorts, although there used to be one on ''the island''. This lake rose several feet in the 80s due to heavy rains and so there are a few stands of flooded timber, but actually that helps provide structure for fish and their spawning. Anyway, if you're looking for peace and quiet, check out Lake Rachel. It's Douglas County's best kept secret. After a long day outdoors Holiday Inn Alexandria, Mn is a great place to spend a night or two; Lake Rachel is a place with many visitors from Alexandria. A scenic lake like Echo Lake close to Lake Rachel is a magnificent place to go to, and Big Foot Resort And RV Park is a glorious campground nearby. It is very dried out here at Lake Rachel frequently; June is when you get the most rain here;       the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. You'll find a scenic lake called Mud Lake near Lake Rachel, and the skiing at Andes Tower Hill is wonderful. If you want a great time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Lake Rachel. At Lake Rachel all through the summertime months highs are in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures                  are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 10's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Lake Rachel dip into the-10's.
