Minnesota has many beautiful lakes and Portage Lake is one of them. This lake is so wonderful. A spree to Frances Bay close to Portage Lake is always a nice idea, and whitewater paddling is glorious on Cascade River. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Portage Lake has to offer, you can camp at Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge, and the Height of Land Portage offers hiking at its best. | | the South Lake Portage; paddling on Cascade River is so much fun. Really fine skiing awaits you at Lutsen. There are other locations here than Portage Lake, for example East Pope Lake. Two Island Lake Campground
 | 12 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
