Pine Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out, and East Bearskin Campground is a great campground nearby. Going for a hike along the Lesser Cherry Portage will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and if the weather is wonderful, you get a splendid vista of Moose Mountain from Pemmican Lake. | | night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 10's; night lows all through the winter for Pemmican Lake tend to be in the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. A lake nearby is Fan Lake, and Kimball Lake Campground is a nice local campground. A normal amount of rain falls here at Pemmican Lake; August is when you get the most rain here, and February is when it's the driest. Dry warm beds await you at East Bay Suites, | |

and if the weather is brilliant, you can go for a hike along the Vaseux Portage.
What a place this is for outdoors folks. If you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Brule River, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Superior Inn & Suites is a magnificent spot to spend a night or two.

Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
