A visit to One Island Lake is always a good idea. You'll need more than a day to explore everything One Island Lake has to offer, you can camp at Cascade River Campground, and Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a nice place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. One Island Lake is a brilliant site to visit for more than one day, Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a brilliant site to camp nearby, and going for a hike on the South Lake Portage is always a good adventure.

| | Near One Island Lake you hit upon the Height of Land Portage which is a fine hiking trail; you can go for a hike on the Stairway Portage. The yearly rainfall here at One Island Lake is about average; all through August this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is February. Lakes? Sure, Little Rush Lake is around here, and there are some great whitewater spots on Cascade River. So many entertaining things to do here at One Island Lake, too | |

nice to be true. Hit the slopes at Lutsen close at hand, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Cascade River. Portage Lake is a magnificent lake in the neighborhood of One Island Lake;
a fine nearby hotel is Caribou Highlands Lodge. This lake is so wonderful. High temperatures at One Island Lake all through the summer months are in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures
through the winter are normally in the 10's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at One Island Lake temperatures drop to the-10's.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | 12 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
