Going for a hike on the Lesser Cherry Portage is always a delightful adventure, and East Bay Suites is a fine spot to get some rest. There is a glorious hiking trail near Nisula Lake called the Vaseux Portage; get yourself into a kayak and hit Brule River. A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Nisula Lake; throughout the month of September you get the most rain around here while February is ordinarily the driest month.

| | than Nisula Lake, for example Devilfish Lake; Nisula Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Go-fer Cabins Trailer Court is a good local campground. Now, you may think that's heaps but there's even more cool stuff to do here at Nisula Lake. A tremendous close by hotel is Best Western Superior Inn & Suites, and the Great Cherry Portage is a fine hiking trail nearby. This lake is so wonderful. During the warm months, highs frequently are in the 70's at Nisula Lake; all through summer nights temperatures
are in the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Nisula Lake.

Trout Lake
 | Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
