     Mud Lake is always a pleasure to visit. That right there is lots already, but it continues; Mud Lake has it all. Big Foot Resort And RV Park is a wonderful local campground, and why not camp at Sun Valley Resort and Camping if you're here at Mud Lake. Summer at Mud Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 10's, and night lows at  
   Mud Lake through the winter regularly fall into the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. Lakes Area Motel and RV Park is a glorious spot to get some rest, and East Mill Nine Golf Course is a tremendous golf course nearby. Here at Mud Lake you'll probably meet some people from Alexandria; dry warm beds await you at Alexandria-Days Inn. This is a wonderful region for people who like lakes. Cork Lake is a lake close at hand, and the slopes of Andes Tower Hill
 
               are so inviting nobody can resist.
Nearby lakes? Sure, Emil Lake is near Mud Lake; do schedule some time to visit Berglins Bay if you have a chance. It is very dry here at Mud Lake usually; June is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month is February.

Lake Rachel
Rachel is a nice little sping-fed lake. Great water clarity (10 feet or so) and minimal boat traffic, so it's really peaceful and serene out there. You'll find excellent northern fishing - very abundant. Walleyes are hard to come by, but every once in a while you'll get one. The public access is tough to use - not a lot of space to turn around or to park. The shoreline is heavily wooded and lightly to moderately developed. It doesn't really feel like a west-central MN lake...feels more ''up north''. Only a handful of people live out there full-time. Most are cabins that get weekend use. No resorts, although there used to be one on ''the island''. This lake rose several feet in the 80s due to heavy rains and so there are a few stands of flooded timber, but actually that helps provide structure for fish and their spawning. Anyway, if you're looking for peace and quiet, check out Lake Rachel. It's Douglas County's best kept secret....
