     You'll stumble on a lovely lake called Spearns Lake near Mud Lake; if you came for an overnight stay Austin's Swamp is a nice spot to camp. From a rainfall point of view Mud Lake is a pretty normal place; through the month of June you get the most rain around here, and February on the other hand is the driest. All through the long summer days at Mud Lake temperatures are frequently in the 70's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's.  
   Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Mud Lake are in the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. Pikedale Lodge is a good campground nearby; do take a hike on the North Country Trail. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things at Mud Lake. A magnificent close by hotel is Rodeway Inn Pine River, and you can have a brilliant hiking adventure along the Lake Erin Trail. Mud Lake is not far
 
               at all from Brainerd, and since you're here, you could also stop by scenic Pollywog Lake.
If you need a place to stay Trappers Landing Lodge is a tremendous choice, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Goose Lake Trail System.

... Minnesota campgrounds and we stay here several times each summer. We love that it is right on a lake and that many of the sites have their own little beach. The campground is quiet and the sites˙ are screened from one another for privacy. I hate to even post a review out of the fear that our favorite camping secret will become everyone's camping favorite. It is close enough to Longville˙ and Remer that you can run in for ice and supplies as needed. One small hint that I will pass on is that you might want to stop in Longville or Hackensack to buy your˙ firewood as the campground does not have any for sale.Mabel Lake campground is not on a campsite reservation system but we have never had a problem finding a site here. We discovered this campground as a result of finding one of the more popular Leech Lake campgrounds full. Once we found Mabel Lake, we never bothered with the other campgrounds in the area again. Mabel Lake is rustic so those seeking hook-ups, flush toilets, and running water best move on to the more crowded campgrounds on Leech Lake and leave us to our own peaceful la...
