McDonald Lake really is in the middle of a beautiful outdoors paradise. There is a great hiking trail close to McDonald Lake called the North Shore State Trail, and dry warm beds await you at East Bay Suites. Lakes are such calm places, why not stop by Vireo Lake near McDonald Lake, and camping at Cascade River Campground is always a perfect experience. This lake is so wonderful. Going for       a hike on the Height of Land Portage is always a wonderful adventure; don't forget to take a pleasant little visit to Hand Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Near McDonald Lake you come across the South Lake Portage which is a great hiking trail, and camping is available at Devil Lake Campground. McDonald Lake gets a typical amount of yearly rainfall; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. Get your heart                  pumping on the perfect whitewater of Cascade River; Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a good spot to get some rest. Head up to Lutsen and strap some skis to your feet, and Belly Lake is a great lake close by. All through the warm months highs here at McDonald Lake get into the 70's. Summer nighttime lows dip down to the 50's.
