After a long day outdoors Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains is a splendid spot to spend a night or two, and if you've had enough of Mayhew Lake, Portage Lake is close by. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Lutsen is near Mayhew Lake; don't forget to pop by Frances Bay since you're here. Mayhew Lake is right by the Height of Land Portage, and Mayhew Lake is a great location to visit for more than one day, Cascade River Campground is a great location to camp

| | nearby. Summer at Mayhew Lake comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Mayhew Lake are in the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Take a hike on the South Lake Portage, and Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a splendid campground nearby. offers some pleasant whitewater. This place is great, just look at all the enjoyable things to do next to Mayhew Lake. Mayhew Lake is not the only place nearby, East Pope Lake is a nearby lake, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody
but if it's for you then, we recommend Cascade River. Mayhew Lake gets a common amount of rain; during the month of August you get the most rain around here; February is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | 13 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
