Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at nearby Turtle Lake, and if you came to camp Devil Lake Campground is a good place to do that. There is a great hiking trail near Mark Lake called the North Shore State Trail; if you need a site to stay Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains is a great choice. | | kayak and hit Cascade River. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Mark Lake, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 10's; night lows at Mark Lake all through the winter usually descend into the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Honeymoon Trail is always a tremendous adventure. There's so much to do here at Mark Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Cascade River Campground | |

is a tremendous place for that. Go for a hike on the Height of Land Portage, and The Mountain Inn is a magnificent spot to get some rest. Really great skiing awaits you at Lutsen. From a precipitation point of view Mark Lake is
a reasonably common place; the month with most of the rain is August while February is generally the driest month.

 | Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. Two Island Lake Campground
 | 11 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
