Lower Balsam Lake is a lake worth visiting. Just can't get enough of the Mesabi Range. A perfect nearby hotel is Country Inn By Carlson Grand Rapids, and Jko Campground is a great local campground. Throughout the summertime, highs ordinarily are in the 70's at Lower Balsam Lake. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 10's; night lows all through the wintertime for Lower Balsam

Balsam Lake is not the only spot nearby, Holmes Lake is a nearby lake; the Wilson Lake Trail offers hiking at its best. Lower Balsam Lake is located in the Mesabi Range. After a long day outdoors Budget Host Inn Grand Rapids is
a good place to spend a night or two, and getting to Balsam Creek from Lower Balsam Lake is trouble-free. This lake is so wonderful. There's magnificent hiking along the Skeeter Lake Trail System, and if you've had enough of Lower Balsam Lake, Isaac Lake is close by.

There is plenty to do at the resort too. Swan Lake is known for its water clarity throughout the summer. Fishing is almost always good with a healthy supply of sunfish, crappies, northern and walleyes. Largemouth bass are definitely the most sought after fish the past few years with most of them released again after they are weighed and their picture is taken for our ''fishing report'' board. Our swimming area is safely marked off with no dangerous drop offs. We have plenty of sand for sunbathing and sandcastle building.
When you're not in or on the water you can play volleyball, badminton, ''fun'' frisbee golf, basketball, pitch horseshoes or play bocce ball. All recreational equipment can be checked out at no charge. Our game room is always busy with kids playing pinball or pool.
