Do stop by Loon Lake while you're in this part of Minnesota. From a rainfall point of view Loon Lake is a quite normal site; the month with most of the rain is June, and the driest of the months is February. There's some flowing water close by, Little Indian Sioux River is a stream you can explore while you're here. East Loon Bay is in the neighborhood and always great to explore; don't leave Loon Lake without first going for a hike along the Beatty Portage. Lake temperatures are usually in the 70's, and the overnight is rather chillier of course, frequently in the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 10's, and overnight lows at Loon Lake during the winter generally
dip into the-20's. You'll stumble on a delightful lake called Little Loon Lake near Loon Lake, and the Canfield Portage offers hiking at its best. After a long day outdoors Elbow Lake Lodge is a good place to spend a night or
two, and Loon Lake is a wonderful place to visit for more than one day, Sioux River Campground is a wonderful place to camp nearby.

Echo Lake
 | 14 miles away ...ors of these fish are remarkable. Back in the late seventies when my father stayed at spring bay resort, my father caught the 13th bluegill ever reprted to be taken out of the lake. Al Johnson, owner of the resort at that time kept a notebook of any bluegills/sunfish ever caught due to the fact that the species was not native. The first time I went to this lake was back in 2000. I casted my nightcrawler harness out and slowly reeled my bait and felt a nice tug, thinking I had a bass on I came to the surprise to have the biggest bluegill hooked I've ever caught in my life. After measuring the brilliant, blue and purple colored gill I recorded that it was 11 inches long. The fight the gill gave was that of a good two pound black bass. The fish were spawning and I caught 8 more in that same bay that were all gigantic in size. The next trip to the lake was in 2007, and I still thought that maybe the gills I caught were maybe a ''fluke'' and there cant be that many in the lake.
