Many people like to go to Long Lake. High temperatures at Long Lake through the days of summer are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's, and night lows in the-10's for Long Lake. You'll find a striking lake called Stump Lake near Long Lake. Puff Creek is a glorious spot to take a look at, and dry warm beds await you at Best Western Superior Inn And Suites.

Get your heart pumping on the great whitewater of Brule River; hiking along the Lesser Cherry Portage is splendid fun. Going for a hike along the Vaseux Portage will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood, and why not camp at Kimball Lake Campground while you're here at Long Lake.

Trout Lake
 | Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
