Why not take a refreshing hike along the Height of Land Portage, and if you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cascade River. Cascade River Campground is a good campground nearby, and you're probably interested in lakes, One Island Lake is one of those close by. This lake is so wonderful. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Little Rush Lake. Once the sun is down it descends down to the

| | 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 10's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Little Rush Lake temperatures drop to the-10's.

is so wonderful. A day on the slopes of Lutsen is just what you need; hiking along the Stairway Portage is perfect fun. Little Rush Lake is right by the South Lake Portage, and after a long day outdoors The Mountain Inn is a glorious site to spend a night or two.

| Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
