Don't leave Little North Lake without first going for a hike along the Height of Land Portage; dry warm beds await you at Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. Little North Lake gets a typical amount of yearly precipitation; all through August this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a good local campground, and there are some delightful whitewater spots on Cascade River.

If you get bored of Little North Lake, you could also go to close by Little Gunflint Lake, and Little North Lake is a brilliant spot to visit for more than one day, Gunflint Pines is a brilliant spot to camp nearby. Frances Bay since you're here at Little North Lake, and Susana Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop at. Through the months of summer here at Little North Lake, high temperatures frequently get into the 70's. Summer night
lows sink down to the 50's. All through the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 10's, and night lows during the winter for Little North Lake tend to be in the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the South Lake Portage, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Lutsen is reasonably near.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | 14 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
