Little Gunflint Lake is delightful enough to spend more than a day at, Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a delightful local campground, and the Stairway Portage offers hiking at its best. You are right next door to Frances Bay while you're here at Little Gunflint Lake, and get wet paddling on Cascade River. This lake is so wonderful. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always pop by nearby Little North Lake, and the skiing at Lutsen is magnificent. Summertime

This is a tremendous area for people who like lakes. Susana Lake is a lake in the neighborhood, and a delightful spot to camp here at Little Gunflint Lake is Gunflint Pines. This lake is so wonderful.
The annual rain here at Little
Gunflint Lake is about average; the wettest month of the year is frequently August, that's the one that rains the most; February is the month with the least moisture. A delightful nearby hotel is Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains, and there's good hiking along the South Lake Portage.

I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
