If you came to camp Gunflint Pines is a fine place to do that, and there are splendid sites to look at along the Rib Lake Trail. Iron Lake is a good spot of normal rainfall; the wettest month of the year is regularly August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February. Near Iron Lake you come across the Height of Land Portage which is a brilliant hiking trail, and soar down the rapids of Cascade River in a kayak. Lake Portage is always a glorious adventure. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Iron Lake while night lows are commonly in the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are commonly in the 10's while the cold winter
nights at Iron Lake are in the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Iron Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a good place for that. Lutsen is a very popular ski area
nearby; after a long day outdoors Eagle Ridge Resort at Lutsen Mountains is a nice site to spend a night or two.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | 14 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
