If you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Thompson Oaks Golf Course is in close proximity; a nice close by hotel is Country Inn And Suites, St. Paul South. A great spot for whitewater paddling near Horseshoe Lake is Vermilion River. This lake is so wonderful. The skiing at Buck Hill is glorious, and camping at Horseshoe Lake is       good fun, Northernaire Motel is a good local campground. The amount of precipitation that falls at Horseshoe Lake is close to the national average; June is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Through the warmest time of the year at Horseshoe Lake highs are usually in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 20's, and                  after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Horseshoe Lake sink into the 0's. Americ Inn is a nice location to get some rest; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by close by Dickman Lake. Visiting Mississippi National River & Recreation Area is just something you need to do if you haven't yet; everyone nearby loves skiing at Afton Alps.
