What a nice lake Hoat Lake is. If you came for an overnight stay East Bearskin Campground is a great site to camp, and do have a look at Sock Lake, it's a beautiful lake. You'll hit upon a delightful lake called Mucker Lake near Hoat Lake; why not camp at Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge while you're here at Hoat Lake. Summertime highs at Hoat Lake regularly tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime

| | are normally in the 10's, and overnight lows at Hoat Lake through the wintertime usually dip into the-10's.
There's nice hiking along the South Lake Portage, and if you need a place to stay Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais is a delightful choice. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is wonderful on Cascade River, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Stairway Portage.

at Hoat Lake. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Hoat Lake; Height of Land Portage is a brilliant local trail; East Bay Suites is a magnificent spot to get some rest. Hoat Lake gets a typical amount of rainfall; all through August this area sees the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest.

 | Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
