at the right time of year, St. Louis River offers some tremendous whitewater, and Strand Lake is a great lake nearby.
If you need a spot to stay Budget Host Virginia is a great choice, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody
but if it's for you then, we recommend Cloquet River. Golden Pond is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Pine River Campground is a splendid local campground, and Stephen Slimak Wildlife Pond Dam is a picturesque spot.

The river is at least 100 miles long. I've paddled from Katherine Lake to the St. Louis River and there is plenty of river to paddle besides the section from US 53 to US 2. The top section, from Katherine Lake to Lake Co #2 is an especially wild ride, and I've only done it once, but the drop is incredible, sometimes like a logging flume.... |

We are always listed as a resort with cabin rentals. our 7 site seasonal campground that has not had an opening for several years, so it is never listed under campgrounds.
