at the right time of year, St. Louis River offers some tremendous whitewater, and Strand Lake is a great lake nearby. If you need a spot to stay Budget Host Virginia is a great choice, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody
but if it's for you then, we recommend Cloquet River. Golden Pond is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Pine River Campground is a splendid local campground, and Stephen Slimak Wildlife Pond Dam is a picturesque spot.

The top section, from Katherine Lake to Lake Co #2 is an especially wild ride, and I've only done it once, but the drop is incredible, sometimes like a logging flume.... |
