What a nice lake First Lake is. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Cloquet/Duluth KOA, and Spirit Mountain is a very popular ski area close by. There's whitewater on Midway River for all you adrenaline people. Lakes are fine; Third Lake is a lake that's near First Lake. There are some good whitewater spots on St. Louis River.
If you came for an overnight stay K O A Kampgrounds is a perfect site to camp, and a quick visit to Fond du Lac Creek

| | is certainly a glorious idea. The annual precipitation here at First Lake is about average; most of the rain falls during June; the driest month of the year is February. All through the months of summer at First Lake highs are generally in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 10's; during the dark hours in the winter at First Lake temperatures sink to the-10's.

Cloquet River
| The river is at least 100 miles long. I've paddled from Katherine Lake to the St. Louis River and there is plenty of river to paddle besides the section from US 53 to US 2. The top section, from Katherine Lake to Lake Co #2 is an especially wild ride, and I've only done it once, but the drop is incredible, sometimes like a logging flume.... |
