The Taconite Trail offers hiking at its best, and Vermilion River is a pleasant whitewater spot close by. You clearly should go for the Mesabi Range. After a long day outdoors Americinn - Mt Iron, Mn is a tremendous place to spend a night or two; Fawn Lake is right by the Canfield Portage. This lake is so wonderful. You can run the rapids of Vermilion River near Fawn Lake; if you came for an overnight stay Sherwood Forest Campground is a glorious site to camp.
