A visit to Ernest Lake is always a good idea. Stay the night at Baker Lake Campground, and on a fine day you can take a hike along the Pine Portage. Summer at Ernest Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 70's, and the night is fairly colder of course, typically in the 50's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 10's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Ernest Lake temperatures plunge to the-10's. There is a nice hiking trail

| | near Ernest Lake called the Granite River Portage. Ernest Lake is a wonderful place to visit for more than one day, Gunflint Pines is a wonderful place to camp nearby, and going for a hike on the Gneiss Lake Portage is always a magnificent adventure. This lake is so wonderful. Larch Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth a visit; you can never get enough of the good skiing at Lutsen. The annual rain here at Ernest Lake is about average; August is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is February.
