Elk Lake Campground is a good local campground; if you need a location to stay Super 8 Morris is a nice choice. Just can't get enough of Elk Lake. During the summer months, highs generally are in the 80's at Elk Lake, and the overnight is quite chillier of course, regularly in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 10's with temperatures at Elk Lake dipping down into the-10's all through winter nights. Elk Lake is a location that is quite dried up
frequently; most of the rain falls through June, and February is when it's the driest.
Barrett Lake Resort and Campground is a great campground nearby, and there are plenty of folks from Alexandria here at Elk Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Very charming scenery and great skiing is what you get at Andes Tower Hill, and while you're here, you could also stop at beautiful Olson Lake. Do explore Church Lake in close proximity to Elk Lake, it's a pretty lake, and playing golf is lots of fun at Red Rock Golf Course.

I had a great time when I was at Andes Tower Hill. The slopes were fun and fast. Although I thought the prices were a little to high. It is still a great place for a family to have a day of fun....

Long Lake
13 miles away
... by stocking this lake. Or better yet put your boat in this once gin clear basin and take a drive. Be sure to get out in the north end and take a walk across the surface algae, Oh be careful not to trip on the carp,or that one, that one and that one. Also take a good look at the very pretty shoreline erosion on the west side of the lake, this is an excellent example of water level control. It is very hard for me to understand why you would put tax dollars into this basin trying to make it a fishery. Sure the fish grow fast and there few predator fish but mabey do a water quality test, why are there no weeds? check the only outlet on the east side of the lake, is there a ruff fish control structure as required by a permit your dept. Issued in the 80’s. This Basin has minimal depth. Limited shoreline development, and was once a historic Migratory stopping spot for multiple breeds of diving ducks. Lets look at the big real picture. Somebody has taken the food out of the grocery store. Fish can live in a sewer and adapt. Basins like this should have a joint management plan so they are no...

Lake Rachel
17 miles away
Rachel is a nice little sping-fed lake. Great water clarity (10 feet or so) and minimal boat traffic, so it's really peaceful and serene out there. You'll find excellent northern fishing - very abundant. Walleyes are hard to come by, but every once in a while you'll get one. The public access is tough to use - not a lot of space to turn around or to park. The shoreline is heavily wooded and lightly to moderately developed. It doesn't really feel like a west-central MN lake...feels more ''up north''. Only a handful of people live out there full-time. Most are cabins that get weekend use. No resorts, although there used to be one on ''the island''. This lake rose several feet in the 80s due to heavy rains and so there are a few stands of flooded timber, but actually that helps provide structure for fish and their spawning. Anyway, if you're looking for peace and quiet, check out Lake Rachel. It's Douglas County's best kept secret....
