Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. Don't look for a big meal here but it is a fun and easy place to have the kids wet a line.

    Many people like to go to Echo Lake. Echo Lake gets a normal amount of rain; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain; February is the month with the least moisture. Summer at Echo Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are commonly in the 10's with temperatures at Echo Lake dipping down into the-10's during winter nights. Near Echo Lake you locate the North  
   Shore State Trail which is a great hiking trail, and after a long day outdoors Caribou Highlands Lodge is a pleasant site to spend a night or two.
Lakes? Sure, Bull Lake is in the vicinity; there's whitewater on Cascade River for all you adrenaline people. This lake is so wonderful. The Height of Land Portage is a pleasant hiking trail near Echo Lake, and a day on the slopes of Lutsen is just what you need. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on
 
               the South Lake Portage is always a tremendous adventure.
You can run the rapids of Cascade River near Echo Lake, and a tour to Brule Bay is always a splendid idea. Why not camp at Cascade River Campground if you're here at Echo Lake, and dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Grand Marais. If you like the outdoors, you'll love Echo Lake. Not far from Echo Lake, you'll hit upon Bannick Lake which is a pretty lake, and if you came for an overnight stay Devil Lake Campground is a good spot to camp.

I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf...
