Whitewater paddling is good on Brule River, and East Pike Lake is right by the Lesser Cherry Portage. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby Moose Lake, and the Great Cherry Portage offers hiking at its best. And if that's not enough, there's heaps more to do near East Pike Lake. A magnificent nearby hotel is Best Western Superior Inn & Suites. All through the summer months at East Pike Lake highs are mostly in the 70's. Throughout

| | the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. Highs during the winter are regularly in the 10's while East Pike Lake nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at East Pike Lake that you need to camp here for a while, East Bearskin Campground is a good site for that, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Vaseux Portage. This is a tremendous area for folks | |

The annual rainfall here at East Pike Lake is about average; all through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is February.

Trout Lake

Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
