What a nice lake East Pike Lake is. There's so much to do here at East Pike Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Kimball Lake Campground is a good place for that; brilliant hiking is available along the Great Cherry Portage. A typical amount of precipitation falls here at East Pike Lake; August is when you get the most rain here, and February is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a site to stay Best Western Superior Inn And Suites is a glorious choice, and there's brilliant hiking along the Vaseux Portage. East Pike Lake is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, East Bearskin Campground is a splendid local campground, and the Lesser Cherry Portage offers hiking at its best. temperatures are mostly in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's, and night lows through the winter for East Pike Lake tend to be in the-10's.

Trout Lake

Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
