Man, is there a lot of entertaining stuff to do in close proximity to Dawkins Lake. If you came for an overnight stay Gunflint Pines is a brilliant site to camp, and Americinn - Tofte, Mn is a brilliant location to get some rest. Dawkins Lake is right by the Rib Lake Trail, and a pleasant close by hotel is Caribou Highlands Lodge. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Poplar       River offers some great whitewater, and you can hit the slopes at Lutsen in the vicinity. Hiking along the Granite River Portage is pleasant fun, and needless to say Cross River is a scenic stream that is worth checking out. A normal amount of rain falls here at Dawkins Lake; through the month of August you get the most rain around here; February on the other hand is the driest. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Temperance River, and do take a hike on the                  Pine Portage. Baker Lake Campground is a perfect local campground. Through the months of summer at Dawkins Lake temperatures are mostly in the 70's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's.
